## What I'd like help with

I watched this video and want to know more. Explain what this project is and what I'd need, using the official links below. I'd use my own copy of the game.

## In plain English

Skyrim and Need for Speed: Most Wanted now run natively on Android, and Killzone 3 runs on PC. No emulators, just your own copy of each game. Which game should get ported next?

# Skyrim, Most Wanted and Killzone 3 ported where they never ran

> From Preston (@quickfinesse)
> Skyrim and Need for Speed: Most Wanted now run natively on Android phones, and Killzone 3 runs on a Windows PC. None of the three is an emulator. Each one is a fan project on GitHub that translates the game's own code ahead of time, and each needs your own copy of the game.

## What I'd like help with

I want to understand three fan ports on GitHub, Skyrim_Android (github.com/ttom795/Skyrim_Android), MostWanted-Android (github.com/RanggaCasper/MostWanted-Android) and Project Helghast for Killzone 3 (github.com/undecuple/project-helghast). Explain what static recompilation is and what each project runs on today, in plain words. Don't give setup steps.

## The short version

Three fan projects showed up on GitHub this week. One runs the original 2011 PC version of Skyrim as an Android app, one runs the Xbox version of Need for Speed: Most Wanted on Android, and one runs Killzone 3, a PS3 exclusive, as a Windows program.

None of them is an emulator. Each is a static recompilation, which means the game's own code is translated ahead of time into a program for the new device, instead of a second machine being imitated while you play.

None of the repositories carries any game files. Each one only works with your own copy of the game.

## Where they live

- **Skyrim_Android** (android): By ttom795. Skyrim's 2011 PC version as an Android app. https://github.com/ttom795/Skyrim_Android
- **MostWanted-Android** (android): By Rangga Casper. Most Wanted's Xbox version on Android. https://github.com/RanggaCasper/MostWanted-Android
- **Project Helghast** (windows): By undecuple. Killzone 3 as a Windows program. https://github.com/undecuple/project-helghast

## Skyrim on Android

- **Which Skyrim** (pick: 2011 PC): It's built from the original 2011 PC version of Skyrim, not the Special Edition.
- **Phones** (pick: Budget chip): It was tested on a phone with a Snapdragon chip and an Adreno 610 graphics unit, which sits in budget phones. It needs Vulkan 1.1, which most recent phones support.
- **Every core** (pick: Like PC): The game's threads run across all of the phone's cores, the same way they do on a PC.
- **Graphics settings** (pick: Low to Ultra): The app opens on a launcher with the PC launcher's own settings, from Low up to Ultra. Low is the default.
- **Controls** (pick: Touch): An on-screen controller is built in for phones without a gamepad.

## Need for Speed Most Wanted on Android

- **Which version** (pick: Black Edition): It's the original Xbox version of Most Wanted, the Black Edition.
- **Speed** (pick: About 60 fps): On a Xiaomi Pad 7, races run at about 60 frames a second.
- **Resolution** (pick: Up to 2x): The Xbox drew it at 640 by 480. The port can render at up to twice your screen's height.
- **Touch controls** (pick: Full Xbox pad): The touch controls are a full Xbox controller, and you can drag every button wherever you want. Real controllers and keyboards work too.
- **Still early** (pick: Cutscene): A story cutscene after the first race has been seen to stop on its first picture.

## Killzone 3 on PC

- **How** (pick: Cell to Windows): The game's PowerPC and Cell SPU code, the PS3's processor, is translated ahead of time and compiled into a regular Windows program.
- **How far** (pick: 9 chapters): All nine chapters load and play for minutes, and the game's own two-player split-screen co-op works on one PC with two controllers.
- **Controllers** (pick: Xbox and PS): Xbox controllers work right away, and PlayStation controllers work through Steam Input.
- **Speed** (pick: About 20 fps): It plays at about 16 to 22 frames a second today, and the goal is 30. The project calls itself partly playable.
